Practicing Oubaitori in our Life

In nowadays world, social media is the main influencer in most of our day-to-day lives. Whenever we open our social media applications, we see posts from different people. We see the latest trend: however, the truth behind everything is that; it is only façade. The social media influencers, acquaintance, friends, family, and family- relatives try to be the best versions of themselves. All for likes, adorations, and compliments. Subconsciously you are influenced by them and unconsciously saddened by your current situation.

Like it or not; it is the truth of today’s generation. I too won’t deny, wanted to be in the latest trend, and it was fun until it became unhealthy. Recently, I have been seeking peace of mind, and tried the old fashion concepts of different cultures, and apply it on my day-to-day life.

One of my favorite prose poem of all times is Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. This is the best prose poem for Oubaitori application, it tells you to be gentle on yourself and be cheerful.

Oubaitori – The Art of Not Comparing Yourself to Others, as I have been writing on my previous blogs. This time, I will try to explain on how I managed myself;

  1. Filtered My Social Media
    • As much as I wanted to be updated by their day-to-day activities and lives, I have to control myself from snooping over their profiles to see who has gone better in life, I filtered some of them by muting or unfollowing them, temporarily. Temporarily, because you don’t have to shut them forever, you’ll just have to find yourself and achieve simple inner peace.
  2. Understand that We Are All in Different Chapters.
    • Do not compare your life chapter to theirs. You might be still in your 7th and they are in their 20th. You do not know what they have gone through to be in that position. If you have been doing a little laid back than them; accept and understand that you have not worked the same. You have to move your ass more. Not Comparing is the most essential thing to remember when practicing Oubaitori.
  3. Self-Awareness
    • This is always the best key towards any success, self-awareness. You have to be aware of yourself; psychologically and emotionally. Whenever you start to compare yourself to others, it gives you either rewarding or depressing feeling. You have to check it from time to time and not be a servant of your thoughts and emotion, as this is unhealthy and will not give you peace of mind.
  4. Stop Pressuring Yourself.
    • You see them in highlights of their life and career and you wanted to be there, too, even though you haven’t done anything related to that, it will only pressure you over nothing. You can never be in the shoes of people who have been doing it for years by only doing it in a week. Remember you reap what you sow.
    • When you post prematurely to social media; of a success that isn’t meant to be there in the first place, people will automatically adore you and will wait for your next life events. You’d even force yourself to continue that pace and even have more. It only brings debts or worse depression.
  5. Be Your own Best friend
    • You have to treat yourself like a best friend. You have to take care of yourself by talking kindly to yourself. Convincing yourself that it is okay not to be there and you have to do it in your own way, is always okay. Remember, we are all in the same battle but not all; functions the same, perceives the same and blooms the same. We all have our own uniqueness.
  6. Acceptance
    • Once you have accepted, that in life we are all built uniquely or differently. You will start accepting everything and love yourself even more. You can happily unmute and follow your friends back on social media, because those insecurities and the pressure you brought only to yourself, will never be once again the cause of your depression. You will live happily and be more supportive of yourself and to others.

Oubaitori – the art of not comparing yourself to others is just one of the many keys to a happier life. The more you practice this concept. The more you appreciate life. Living happier and longer without being bothered by other people’s success.
